E-Government: Brazil in Third Global Forum, Naples, Italy, 12-17 March 2001

Delegations from the Federal Government, State of Bahia, State of  Rio de Janeiro, and City of Rio de Janeiro participated in the Third Global Forum - Fostering democracy and development through e-government in Naples, Italy, in March, 2001. Brazil had hosted the Second Global Forum in Brasília in May of 2000. Peter Knight has been developing a project provisionally entitled Rio de Janeiro: Intelligent City, Intelligent State, within which e-government would play an important role, and attended both the Second and Third Global Forums.

Ceres Prates Alves and Peter Knight spoke on Brazilian e-government programs at the seminars held 12-14 March, prior to the Forum itself, and Pedro Pinto Lima de Farias and Solon Lemos Pinto addressed the Plenary and one of the workshops held during the Forum on 15-17 March.

On this page are some photos of the events and participants, and links to the formal remarks and presentations by Ceres Prates Alves on e-Government – Realizing the Benefits of Information Technologies and Improving Public Services Delivery, Pedro Pinto Lima de Farias, on Electronic Government: The Brazilian Policy and Solon Lemos Pinto on The Electronic Government Policy in Brazil. Fernando Peregrino also prepared a presentation on the state of Rio de Janeiro's  e-Government Initiatives. Peter Knight's presentation was extemporaneous, at a seminar which had been rescheduled prior for prior to the arrival of the Brazilian federal government delegation, with a brief description of the Brazilian and some state programs, and a guided navigation of the official federal government portal.
