e-Learning Projects in Brazil
Beginning in 2001, Peter Knight began a program to develop e-learning
projects in Brazil, building on the ideas in his paper The
Half-Life of Knowledge and Structural Reform of the Education Sector for
the Knowledge-Based Global Economy. That paper suggested that
progress in realizing the potential cost-savings and quality
improvements made possible by the application of advanced information
and communications technologies would be fastest in the private sector
providing training to members of the labor force. As part of that
program, Peter Knight accepted the invitation of VPLAB Sistemas, a São
Paulo firm, to give a full-day mini-course entitled Métodos,
Técnicas e Ferramentas para Planejamento e Design em Projetos de
e-Learning on April 3, and also to make a keynote presentation to a
one-day conference e-Learning 2001 on April 4. The
mini-course had 22 participants, including a group of five from
Petrobrás (the Brazilian state petroleum company), representatives of a
number of private sector firms (including Sun Microsystems, Módulo
e-Security, COPEL, Ericsson, and Enertec do Brasil), government agencies
(including SEBRAE, SUDENE, and SENAI), and private sector universities
and training organizations (including UNINOVE, Open School, and House of
English). Here are a few photos from the course.
