Work Experience
Frederick Lockwood has worked on all aspects of distance education for over twenty years, and is widely recognized for his work in the field. The scope of his work at the Open University includes providing input on course planning, production, presentation, and evaluation. In recent years much of his work has involved multimedia course production and providing staff development activities for course teams, faculty members, and other groups of academic staff.
During the last four years, Dr. Lockwood has conducted over 500 staff development activities associated primarily with the design of self-instructional learning materials for over 75 national and international audiences.
He has also worked for numerous other international institutions of higher education in the past ten years, and has consulted to an led international teams working on a range of projects for The British Council, Overseas Development Administration, and The World Bank.
In addition to his project work, Lockwood is Series Editor of The Open and Distance Learning Series, the largest book series of its kind in the world, publishing 18 books since 1992, and earning the Open and Distance Learning Association of Australia Book Award in 1995.

Deputy Director, Institute of Educational Technology; and Head, Teaching and Consultancy Centre, October 1990September 1993. Promoted to Senior Lecturer, October 1992; given a discretionary increment, October 1996.
Lecturer, Institute of Educational Technology, Open University, July 1975September 1990. Worked with course teams within the Faculty of Educational Studies and the Faculty of Social Science. Tasks ranged over all aspects of course design and development: from initial course planning, production to presentation, and course evaluation.
Assistant Lecturer in Education, University of Malawi, September 1968July 1972. Appointed Assistant Lecturer in 1968, and promoted to Lecturer in 1971. Responsible for Audio Visual Media Centre and various courses within the Education Department at Diploma and Post Graduate level.
