Building Africa's Information Highway
The High Level Working Group on Information and Communications Technologies in Africa (HLWG)
worked under the auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. Its report,
Africa's Information Society Initiative (AISI): An Action Framework to Build Africa's Information and Communications Infrastructure
is available in English, French, and Portuguese.
The World Bank's Electronic Media Center, led by Peter Knight, helped with the production of five video case studies of Internet development
(Egypt, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Senegal, and South Africa) and made use of footage shot for these videos to produce this summary on its own Media 100 digital video system. The program includes the main messages of the case studies and supports the HLWG report.
The video Building Africa's Information Highway is available in
both broadcast quality (Betacam SP) and VHS in English, French, and
Portuguese language versions from the
World
Bank's Film and Video Unit (do a search on Film
Library).
Here are a few frames from the video and a photograph of the shooting of the Senegal video.
