South Africa's Information Highways, Television Program and Video

With partial funding from the Africa Region of the World Bank, the Bank's Electronic Media Center, led by Peter Knight, and CSIR worked with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) to produce a 12-minute television program on the development of the Internet in South Africa and its use to solve some of South Africa's pressing development problems, in particular to benefit the groups disadvantaged by the Apartheid system. This is one of five national video case studies on Internet development in Africa.

Deputy President Thabo Mbeki opens the Information Societyand Development Conference, May 13, 1996.
